WASHINGTON, DC. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) was named one of the most effective trade associations in Washington, DC, according to the latest annual TradeMarks study released by APCO Worldwide, a leading international advocacy and communications consulting firm.

“Putting politics aside and working effectively with both sides of the aisle on both sides of the Hill, and throughout the administration, has been key to AdvaMed’s success on behalf of the medtech industry and the patients our companies serve,” said the organization’s president and CEO Scott Whitaker. “The entire AdvaMed team is committed to excellence, and to helping our member companies navigate the regulatory and legislative world at the state, federal, and global levels, and they deserve all the credit for APCO’s recognition.”

The Trademarks study, which measures the influence and efficacy of advocacy associations in the nation’s capital, was based on a survey of 321 policy leaders in Washington, including congressional staff, executive branch officials and private sector executives. Respondents were asked to assess the performance of 50 trade associations based on 15 characteristics that make an organization an effective public policy advocate as judged by its key stakeholders.

AdvaMed was one of only six associations that was ranked at the top of at least one of those 15 performance characteristics.

AdvaMed took the top ranking in three categories:

• Multilateral Impact – “Works effectively across the executive, legislative and regulatory branches”;
• Bipartisanship ­– “Works effectively and is viewed favorable by policymakers from across the political spectrum”; and
• Information Resource – “Produces accurate and reliable information, including research and data, to help inform policy.”
