AdvaMed Concludes Record-Breaking The Medtech Conference 2022
BOSTON, October 27, 2022 — The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) this week concluded its annual The MedTech Conference, a content-packed three days in a return to fully in-person events. The Medtech Conference, regarded as the largest gathering for the global medtech community, broke attendance and international representation records in promoting the ideas, partnerships, and innovations that serve patients worldwide.
“The house was packed, the energy was high, and the opportunities to connect and grow as a critical part of the health care sector were incredible,” said Scott Whitaker, president and CEO of AdvaMed. “I hope all who attended went back home, full of new ideas to get back to what they do best: improving and saving the lives of patients around the world.”
“The appetite for connection, whether for investment, partnership, or simply inspiration, was stronger than ever this year,” said Ray Briscuso, AdvaMed executive vice president, Conferences and Events. “We all come away with renewed energy to top even the records we broke this week.”
The Medtech Conference attracted 3,400-plus attendees, a new record, from 45 countries, also a new record, to participate in more than 100 sessions led by 400-plus leaders from across medtech, business, and government. A record number of qualified investors – well over 200 – attended to find breakout medtech devices for potential funding.
The Medtech Conference included exhibits featuring the latest medical technology; CEO Unplugged sessions with leadership insights; patient stories; expert panel discussions; and speakers including former Secretary of Defense, General James N. Mattis; Dr. Robert Califf, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration; Brian Moynihan, chair and chief executive officer, Bank of America; Mike Mahoney, chairman and chief executive officer of Boston Scientific; Ashley McEvoy, executive vice president, worldwide chairman, Medtech, Johnson & Johnson; Derek Herrera, founder and CEO of Bright Uro and president and chairman of MedtechVets; and Mike Minogue, chairman, president, and CEO of Abiomed and chairman of the AdvaMed board of directors.
Highlights included:
- The first-ever Investor Forum to showcase and connect innovators with the investment needed to develop their medtech devices.
- Medtech Innovator gave out cash prizes and awards to five showcase finalists; the winner of the showcase, Phiex Technologies, was selected based on a live audience vote and went home with the grand prize.
- Medtech Innovator and AdvaMed Accel announced EvoEndo as the winner of the 2022 Medtech Innovator Execution Award and the Virginia Shimer Rybski Memorial Award.
- AdvaMed awarded Lester B. Knight, a founding partner of RoundTable Healthcare Partners and former chief executive of Allegiance, the 2022 AdvaMed Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by IQVIA Medtech.
- TEAMFund, a public charity and a for-profit impact fund enhancing patient access to medical technology in low-resource settings, released its fourth Annual Impact Report, showing millions of new patient services and unique patients, including in India and Africa.
In 2023, The Medtech Conference will be in Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 9-11, building on the successes of this year’s Investor Forum, with continued focus on bringing investors and innovators together for collaboration.
Last year, AdvaMed announced that the 2024 The Medtech Conference will be hosted in Toronto, a decision spurred by the robust Canadian presence at the conference over the past several years and enduring partnerships with Canadian medical technology organizations, including Medtech Canada.
