AdvaMed Joins Biden Administration Working Group to Address Medtech Supply Chain Concerns That Could Soon Affect Patient Care
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the world’s largest trade organization representing medical technology manufacturers, announced its new role in the Biden Administration’s Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working Group. The working group was convened to assist in the implementation of the National Strategy for a Resilient Public Health Supply Chain, and AdvaMed’s Abby Pratt has been named to the executive committee.
“Supply chain issues, especially those related to semiconductor chips, have become a critical challenge for medtech companies working to develop life-saving technologies for patients. We are facing a potential health care crisis if we fail to address these outstanding shortages and plan for the future,” Scott Whitaker, AdvaMed President and CEO said. “We thank the Biden Administration for the opportunity to join this crucial working group that gives our members a platform to share their concerns directly with them and with our supply chain partners. This is an important opportunity for us all to work together to find solutions that support the patients we serve.”
Abby Pratt, AdvaMed Sr. Vice President in the global policy department who oversees supply chain issues, said: “Without access to component parts, ranging from high-tech semiconductor chips to basic papers and resins, our members are struggling to meet the demands of our health care system, potentially impacting the health and wellbeing of millions of Americans. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with members of this public-private working group to address issues impacting our industry and to help ensure our supply chain is secure for patients in need.”
More than 125 industry and government partners have come together to establish the Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working Group as a formal working group of the Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council.
Through subject-specific task groups of experts, the Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working brings together implementation teams, federal experts, and the private sector to achieve three priority objectives: foster information-sharing, collaborate to identify supply chain resilience priorities, and ensure that the path to a more resilient health care and public health supply chain is jointly established by the federal government and industry partners.
