BOSTON, MASS. September 25, 2019 – The Medtech Conference closes its 13th annual meeting today with a record-breaking attendance of 3,320 visitors from throughout the medical device and diagnostics industry. Held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, more than 1,410 companies and leaders in the medical technology industry hailing from 39 countries came to town for the three-day event. 

“The Boston area is the East Coast epicenter for medtech innovation with so many incredible companies working tirelessly to improve patient care,” said Scott Whitaker, president and CEO, AdvaMed®. “Our Conference theme ‘Improving Health Care. Improving Lives.’ was so clearly evident throughout the conference and Exhibit Hall as we heard from patients whose lives have been saved and enhanced thanks to medical technology, and we learned about so many cutting-edge innovations that will soon transform how health care is delivered.” 

Some highlights from The Medtech Conference in Boston include: 

• AdvaMed® bestowing its 2019 Lifetime Achievement award to industry veteran Catherine “Cathy” M.  Burzik, former president of J&J’s Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics Division and president and CEO of Kinetic Concepts, Inc.; 

• Engaging plenary sessions featuring Massachusetts Gov. Charles Baker, CMS Administrator Seema Verma and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton; 

• A dynamic Patient Pavilion with demonstrations of the latest technologies and interviews between CEOs and patients; 

• Nearly 2,250 business development meetings scheduled through the Medtech Connect platform, a 34% percent increase over 2018;  

• 175 exhibitors displayed their latest products and services in the conference’s Exhibit Hall;  

• 50 Medtech Innovator Showcase participants featuring the latest in cutting-edge medical technologies and diagnostics;  

• 126 educational panels organized into four tracks;  

• 12 CEOs Unplugged sessions featuring leaders from companies such as Abbott, BD, B. Braun Medical, and Smith & Nephew;  

• A bustling Exhibit Floor featuring The Innovation Pavilion; Medtech Innovator Showcase; Medtech Exec Talks; Solutions Showcase; Patient Pavilion, and;  

• Medtech Innovator gave out $500,000 in cash prizes and awards to five showcase finalists. The winner of the showcase, Forest Devices, was selected based on a live audience vote and went home with the grand prize. 

Next year The Medtech Conference goes international and will be held Oct. 5-7, 2020, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada.
