Outgoing Chair Patrick Daly Praised for Engaging Investment Community
WASHINGTON, D.C. – AdvaMed Accel – the division within AdvaMed dedicated to addressing the unique needs and challenges of smaller medical technology manufacturers – announced that Martha Shadan, executive chairwoman of IlluminOss Medical, has been named chair of the Accel Board of Directors for a two-year term.
Shadan has served on the Accel Board of Directors since 2015 and the AdvaMed Board of Directors since 2017. She was also a founding member of the Leadership Circle for the association’s Women’s Executive Network (WEN) and has served as the Co-Chair of the Physician-Owned Companies Working Group since its formation under the Legal Committee in late 2015.
“Health care systems in the U.S. and around the world face enormous challenges providing the high-quality care patients demand,” said Shadan, “and innovation – the kind emerging medtech companies create everyday – are meeting those challenges head on. I know the value our innovations provide, and we need to make sure policies are in place that foster that innovation. I am proud to lead AdvaMed Accel at this exciting time, when we are on the verge of so many breakthroughs that will fundamentally improve patient care.”
“Martha is a true visionary in the medtech field, and AdvaMed Accel is fortunate to have someone with her experience and leadership abilities at its helm,” said Ashley Wittorf, executive director, AdvaMed Accel, Global Head, Investor Relations. “With over 30 years of experience in the industry, including serving as President and CEO for Rotation Medical as well as senior executive positions at Zimmer and Covidien, Martha understands every aspect of the innovation ecosystem from capital formation to demonstrating value to providers.”
Shadan succeeds Patrick Daly, president and CEO of Cohera Medical, who served as chair of the Accel Board since 2016.
Chief among his accomplishments as Accel Chair, Daly oversaw the creation of a Business Development Working Group, which connects small companies, business development executives, and the investment community. During his tenure, Daly also directed extensive research on challenges facing the industry and potential solutions.
“Patrick has worked tirelessly to revitalize the medtech innovation ecosystem and to increase opportunities for capital formation,” said Wittorf. “He has left in place a profound legacy, ensuring that smaller medtech companies have a strong voice within the association.”
